Product Details

The Palm Springs Visitor Center designed by Albert Frey and Robson C. Chambers was originally the Tramway Gas Station built in 1965. The soaring wedge-shaped roof of the building took its inspiration from a surprising source: the Waikikian Hotel in Honolulu. Visiting the islands, Frey was impressed by its hyperbolic parabolic roof, and reinterpreted Tiki for the desert.

Due its distinctive design situated at the border of Palm Springs, it now serves as a Welcome Center and landmark defining the Mid-Century Modern architecture for which Palm Springs is famous.
